There are, of course, many types and styles of writing depending on your audience, delivery and purpose.
- The aim of content writing is to inform, with a view to selling at a later time. Examples of long-form content are researched articles and blog posts on a variety of subjects. Examples of shorter form content include web pages, social media updates. There are also video/audio scripts, speech-writing and summarising.
- On the other hand, copywriting aims to persuade and to sell: it tries to drive some sort of action. Examples are writing descriptions for products or services, sales brochures and some website landing pages and pitch documents.
- Beyond these there are many more. There is script-writing; presentation-writing; writing for SEO purposes; writing for different audiences including children; and ghost-writing. Then there are specialisms such as writing historical novels; instruction manuals; even press releases.
